2024 Law Day Event

The Hunterdon County Bar Association sponsored a Law Day/ Court Night event on Wednesday, May 1st from 4:30pm-6:00pm on the grounds of the Hunterdon County Deer Path Park in Flemington. The theme for the 2024 Law Day was “Voices of Democracy”.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson and Christopher Vaccaro, Esq., of Kearns Rotolo, Co-chairs of the Hunterdon County Bar Association Law Day Committee, along with Lisa Browning, Esq., Hunterdon County Bar Association President, welcomed all in attendance, explained the significance of Law Day and this year’s topic, and presented the student awards. The formal program concluded with the dedication of a new park bench and kiosk near the recently added playground.

Awards were presented to the county’s Mock Trial champion team from Hunterdon Central High School, and the Mock Trial teams from North Hunterdon and Voorhees. Awards were also presented to the Courtroom Artists. The Courtroom Artist program gives creative students an opportunity to stretch their artistic muscles while sketching their school’s mock trial team in action. In addition, the Hunterdon County Bar Association presented their 2024 Mock Trial scholarships to Dhwani Bhargava from North Hunterdon High School, Audrey Devine from Voorhees High School, and Colin Howell from Hunterdon Central High School. Finally, an award was presented to the first-place winner in our kiosk art contest, Jianna Marina. After the formal program concluded, HCBA President Lisa Browning, Esq. moderated an esteemed panel titled, “Voices of Democracy: A View From the Bench.” Assignment Judge Kevin M. Shanahan, A.J.S.C. was joined by Judge Robert Ballard, P.J. Civil, and Judge Gerard J. Shamey, P.J. Municipal to discuss voting rights civics, civility, and collaboration as the cornerstones of democracy.

The Law Day program is cosponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and made possible through funding from IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey.
